The hotel was fairly clean and had pleasant and accommodating staff. The venue was in a very central location so close to the local council, the restaurant and city centre. Moreover, it was 2 km from Mary Stevens Park.
Well, there was no internet access.

Good choice of food - bar and restaurant. Excellent breakfast.
Parking could be a problem especially if a function taking place. No desk in room made working difficult.

The hotel was very interesting and the rooms had been kept as close as possible to the original while having modern facilities. Parking was good.

It was central for the town.
The room said non - smoking but on entering the room it stank of cigarette smoke.

There was no heating in the bedroom/bathroom. I was given a convection heater but this cut out after a minute, so that was no use. My towel was still wet in the morning because the heated towel rail was part of the central heating system (and therefore off). The bedstead was loose and annoying. The bathroom window didn't shut properly, so it was draughty. The whole place seemed shabby and in need of renovation.

Bathroom clean, bed clean, good breakfast
Carpets filthy, room door hard to open, too noisy, evening bar meal disgusting

Dining area was pleasant, bedroom was clean. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Staff polite and helpful.
Hotel is suffering from problems with water leaking through ceilings, this was evident in our bedroom and the bar. Water leaked during our second night and completely soaked the spare bed.

The staff were excellent and they took time to describe the historical features of the hotel. The dining room was splendid.
The newly refurbished bathroom was poorly finished with gaps in the tiling. The window frame was rotten - unsurprisingly so since it encroached into the shower zone.
